I had no idea what working for a living was like. Running my coffee shop certainly isn’t 9:00-5:00. I need to be at work around 7:00am because there's good business from around 7:30 onwards with people going to work and stopping by for breakfasts to go. I guess we are done by around 4:30, but then there’s the clean down every day. I am unforgiving about this. And so is the local health inspector…and quite right too!
It’s usually gone six by the time I’ve cleaned down and cashed up for the day. The air con is something on the to do list. But in a cafe, you don’t want food getting cold so the working areas will always be hot.
Jenny, Steph and Jane are really hard workers, and Steph in particular, who does most if not all of the cooking is usually a hot mess of sweat soon after firing up the griddle.
