Reading the Grandma story reminded me of this one!A well-seasoned pastor was planning to preach a sermon on skiing. His wife tried to discourage him by telling him that he didn't know enough about it to prepare a sermon, let alone hold the congregation's attention, but he contended that he had observed enough that he had definitely drawn some excellent lessons that could have parallels drawn to other life situations.He worked on the sermon late Saturday evening. In the morning, his wife asked him if he was really going to go through with it and he energetically replied, "Definitely. I'm all prepared!" When they arrived at church and were about to get out of the car, she checked once more on his intentions, hoping that he had changed his mind. He replied affirmatively that yes, indeed, he was going to preach on skiing. As a last resort to try to discourage him, she said, "Well, then I'm staying in the car." So she did not get out.One of the deacons met the pastor at the door and presented a dilemna about apparent promiscuity happening amongst mature members as well as on the youth level that needed addressing soon, so the pastor decided at the last minute to dig out an old sermon on the subject from his files that he had preached at this previous parish, but had not been used at the current one yet.After the service, the first lady out the front door met the pastor's wife sulking in the car and cheerfully said to her, "Oh, my dear, your husband is so knowledgeable! You missed a fantastic sermon on s___!" but was cut short by the pastor's wife.Still thinking that he had preached about skiing and not knowing that he had changed to the topic of sex at the last minute, she remarked disgustedly, "He doesn't know a thing about it! He's only been on twice and fell off both times and couldn't even get up again by himself! I get so irritated at trying to help get him back up again that I don't want any part of it anymore!"The other lady replied somewhat sympathetically, "Then I certainly can't blame you for not coming in. I'd have stayed in the car too, rather than coming in and being embarrassed!"
