Make sure your popup blocker is "off".

I assume that you are talking about Chat whispers, if so and you are in Chat then left click the user in question and you should see various options in a pop up. One of those options will be whisper. Click on whisper and the chat box at the bottom of the screen will highlight green and you will see whisper in the box denoting the member. Type your chat and it will post with a whisper label.
With that being said, I've seen issues with browsers having issues with Chat. For instance I was using Chrome and it didn't work. Went to Firefox and it worked fine, so if you are having issues then switching to another browser may work better.
Occasionally there are glitches with the software that can cause issues as well. We try to take care of those of course.
AS was stated previously, made sure if you are using a pop up blocker, set it to not block on this site.

Is there a way to set whisper for that screen name once during the session OR do you have left click EVERY time?
