Tributes and electronics

I am not one to send tributes although I know that they are popular with plenty of others. I understand tributing a print-out or a picture but what about when people (especially guys) do it with a laptop or a phone? Doesn't that make a massive, disgusting mess? Probably one of the oddest questions posted here but this inquiring mind wants to know.
