This was the time of the first home video recorders.  It was before Blockbuster and other video chains, it was the era of videos passed around our Dad's and their mates, pirate videos, no controls.  It was betamax against VHS and in these really early days,  it was all betamax.  One of my best mates had the first video recorder I ever saw and I remember some of the films I saw like Babyface, Taboo, Debbie does Dallas and so on.  
 

One night, not long after the first video I'd seen, and this was years before the Internet so this was our only outlet,  there were three of us watching some German porn film.  I looked over and my mate had his trousers open and was masturbating. Then I realised the other guy was,  so I joined in.  We were all sitting apart, but it was the first time I masturbated in the same room as someone else, and the first time I saw another erection, other than on film.  I don't know how many times we all masturbated that night, but it was several times, and after that, it was just normal to wank whilst my mate was wanking.   Simpler times!!

I remember graduating from mags to moving images, though I didn't go straight to VHS. I had a brief experience with 8mm cine films (silent and mostly black and white) but moved swiftly to VHS when it became available. Moving images were great wanking material.

Yay VHS! (And Betamax, for a while...) Somebody once remarked that immediately after the first VCRs came on the market, people started making a trading sex tapes before anything else.
