A Mom's Perspective
I'm a realist. Our children are going to learn about sex from many different angles. The proliferation of the internet has definitely changed the way our children learn about sexuality, especially with the ease at which they have access to sites that show human sexuality in a degraded state. I have always been very open and honest with my daughters and most recently with my son. I have 5 daughters ranging in ages from 19 to 13 and a son who is 13. Elizabeth and Aaron are fraternal twins and are my youngest.
I have taught my four oldest daughters and most recently the twins the proper respect and responsibility for their sexuality. I have given each of my daughters a very real lessons in human sexuality including the use of condoms and how to satisfy their sexual urges through masturbation techniques. I have encouraged them to abstain from intercourse until they are married, but I have also shown them that they can use masturbation as a tool to become sexually satisfied before marriage.
Many parents consider masturbation as something to be discouraged and then wonder why are children are having babies and why sexually transmitted diseases are running rampant. We either give them the right information and life lessons or they will learn it on their own or be taught it by the school system that lacks moral fortitude.
I recently had the opportunity to give my daughters a very visual experience of how a boy masturbates and hopefully understand the dynamics of interaction between the sexes.
My son Aaron and Elizabeth share a room. They have grown up together and are very close. Recently Aaron and Lizzie decided to play a little show and tell and I happened to walk in on their experimentation with each other. I asked them to come to my bedroom because I wanted to talk with them about something and I asked them to come as they were. When they walked in , I had them close the door behind them and sit on the bed with me. They were both naked. This is how I handled this. Many will not agree with what I'm about to share, but I believe that I handled it in a very realistic and loving manner.
"First I want you both to know that I'm not mad or upset by what I saw you doing.OK?
It's very normal to experiment and want to see each other naked. I want you to understand that touching each other in your private parts can be fun but also very serious."
I explained to them how babies are made. I took out my dildo shaped like a penis and showed them how a male and female have intercourse. Yes I demonstrated the actual act.
They were obviously paying attention because they watched very intently as I proceeded to demonstrate intercourse with my dildo on myself. I was also showing them that masturbating with toys is OK, mostly for Lizzie's sake. I explained that it was important to keep them clean also. I then explained to them that this act of love should only be done between a husband and a wife. But I also went on to explain how to be safe if they chose to have intercourse.
At this point, I had Lizzie get up and have the rest of her sisters come in the bedroom.
When all of the girls came in and closed the door, I had them remove their clothes.
"I want everyone to look at each other. I want you to see the different stages of development in each other. And I want you to be comfortable seeing each other naked.
Everyone here has now heard and seen my speech about having babies. You have each been shown how to please yourselves except for Aaron. I understand that this may be very awkward for Aaron and maybe for you but I want you to see and watch how a male masturbates. Then afterwards you hopefully will be familiar with how to take care of a boy without having to have intercourse."

And I let each girl take a turn stroking Aaron so they would get a feel for what it felt like. Needless to say, Aaron was just about ready to explode by the time Lizzie had a chance to grab hold and so I had her take him to climax. The girls were amazed at how much came out of Aaron's penis. I was actually a little amazed myself. The girls then had a chance to look at his sperm. Then I had each of them take a little on their fingers and feel what it felt like. Abby, my oldest actually tasted it as did a couple of the other girls. I explained to them that oral sex can be just as dangerous as having intercourse. I told them that sexually transmitted diseases can be gotten by having oral sex, so they better be very careful.
I had the girls leave so that I could have a private discussion with Aaron.
"Aaron, I know this was very intense and I want to thank you as your mom for allowing me to show the girls. You were very brave. I also want you to know that what went on here today stays here. You and your sisters have been given lessons that the world may not agree with. I hopefully have not traumatized you or them. I want you to be well equipped for life when it comes to sex and I think all of you have done a tremendous job so far in dealing with it." Then I went into the bathroom and got a wet washcloth and cleaned up the rest of the sperm from his stomach.
"If you ever have any other questions about sex, I hope you'll be able to talk with me about them." And with that we ended our evening sexual lessons.
My children are my life and I want them to be safe and healthy and grow up to be adults that are well equipped for what comes their way sexually. Have I done a good job? Only time will tell!
My method for teaching my children will probably not be socially acceptable to everyone. That's alright because the way children learn about sex today is socially unacceptable to me! God Bless!
