When I was in high school a few decades ago, I spent much of one summer volunteering for a Democratic presidential campaign. I went canvasing nearly every weekend, went to all the local campaign functions, and was a relentless supporter of our candidate.

At a meeting near the end of the summer, it was announced that the candidate would be making a visit to our state capital, just a few hours away. Naturally, I wanted to go. So I arranged to volunteer at the event.

At the last minute, the campaign people decided they didn't they didn't need any extra volunteers, so they told me I was not needed.

Because I had already made plans to go, I went anyway to attend the event.

The event was to occur in a large public park. This was in the days before security, so everyone just went to the park and we waited for the candidate to show up and that was it. Over to one side were the Republican detractors supporting their candidate.

The park had two men's and two women's bathrooms on opposite sides. When I had to go take a pee, I went over to the nearest of the men's bathrooms. I opened the door and turned the corner around the privacy wall. There were two toilets,no urinal, next to each other with no dividers or anything. He interrupted. 'It's cool. Have a seat,' he said, motioning toward the unoccupied toilet to his right. I obliged, pulling down my shorts and getting to business.
