The most popular video we ever shot was an eight minute video of an adorable eighteen year old, petite, fit, brunette old army brat named Mercedes masturbating by herself in the bathroom. Not only did it proliferate wildly it evolved its own story, a story that in re-watching the video for the first time in ten years to write this I realized was in direct conflict with the back story of the video.
The video has made us close to a $1 million in gross sales. We shot it in 2003 and since then it has had well over 100 million views that I can easy add up by looking at a half dozen you tube style porn sites like Pornhub and YouPorn. However given that over the last sixteen years the video has been on-line I have seen it being shared profusely on the original Napster and other peer to peer file sharing sites like Limewire and Kazaa in the early 2000s and have sent legal take down notices for the video as recently as yesterday, I would imagine that number is much closer to a 1 billion than 100 million.
So what does the story of a video with 100’s of millions of views over sixteen years look like from our side? And how has the message of the video changed. And yes, even porn videos can convey a message.
Mercedes came with her best friend and roommate Jordan. Both the roommate situation and oddly enough the best friend situation were exactly one week old when they decided to do a porn shoot together. Jordan was a twenty year old blond from Texas. Jordan was shorter and more full figured than Mercedes. What we recorded happened because we gave our models a safe, comfortable and clean environment. We took the time to get to know them as people and as sexual beings who were going to open up that facet of their lives for us and our members to see.
