The new chat is awful. It's completely unusable for it's one job; chatting!
I can't even see my friends list, let alone see who is online and message them.
The people I can see as online aren't even friends.
You can't click on someone's name and go to their profile page.
You can't even see who is actually in the group chat.

This isn't a bug, Please just put the old chat back!!

This new one has the same "feature" of not being able to chat with friends, at least on mobile.
