I need some advice....

Post by mushroomhead »

Since I was maybe 14, I have been told that I have some skills in writing and story telling. I wrote my first short story as a class assignment and my teacher was very impressed by it and told me I had a future in such things. I never did follow through with it though, as I had many other different interests. Now, I am 51 and retired, and I have a lot of free time on my hands. Masturbation takes up a certain fraction of that time  , but yet and still, I have a lot of free time, and I have been thinking that I would like to get back into writing either short stories, screenplays, or maybe even writing my autobiography.

Now, I have a couple of areas which I think I can excel in, such as horror and sci-fi, but lately there is another area I would like to write about, and that is the natural act that a boy or girl discovers at a certain time. I guess it would be termed as a coming of age. I want to write stories about discovering myself, and the pleasures of such things. I want to write about things that happen to a boy or girl in their youth that are happy memories for the rest of their life. BUT, I dont want to break any laws about child pornography or anything like that. I have a lot of adventures that I experienced from 12-17 that I would like to mention, but dont want to break any laws. Also, there are a lot of stories which I can come up with in that time frame which are fiction, but would make for a great story, but again, I dont want to break any laws.

I am not knowledgeable on what laws are concerning such things. I have seen several movies that touch on the subject of teens masturbating, so something in that area is acceptable. I have no clue as to what is allowed book wise, as I havent read a book since I was 15  .

Can anyone give me any thoughts on what is acceptable if I want to write a story and have it seriously considered for a novel or short story or whatever.

On most adult forums that I'm aware of everyone is born at 18 years old and, whatever memories we may have of another time, I think it's a wise rule. For what it's worth I'd advise making sure all characters in stories are at least 18 or older. That's the basis on which Literotica, one of the biggest adult story sites operates on and I think it protects everyone and helps to keep their experience enjoyable.

Thanks for that reply. Unfortunately, that was a reply I was expecting. I learned to masturbate at age 12, and I think I should be able to talk about those experiences of me and others, but I guess that isnt acceptable, at least not yet, until many people can get past that. I mean, it has only been a decade or so where as you could even mention masturbating without being berated. Most people are still so closed minded unfortunately.

Write and post to online free blogger like Google Blogger. Make it private. Send me the link, I would like to read your posts. Erotic stories can get me off. Seriously!

This semi-retired writer has three suggestions:

(1.) Read ST's guidelines on story submissions. Lots of wisdom there. While I've read and even submitted content focused on my early teens (first-time accounts, etc., apparently are well within bounds), it's good to know ST's guidelines. And you can also contact them about a specific story you have in mind and whether it may be acceptable on ST.

(2.) Buy a copy of Writer's Market, a great resource for freelancers. It's what its title says: a comprehensive guide to fiction/nonfiction publishers and outlets of all sorts, the content they're looking for, their guidelines and what they pay, if anything. If I remember correctly, erotica is part of the landscape.

(3.) Write. Just do it. Write about anything -- just for your sake. Hone your skills.

I wish you the best, and I applaud your interest in writing.
