I remember when it started. I was 13, and my step-Mom, my Dad and I were on vacation. My own Mom had been killed by a hit-and-run driver when I was a year and a half old, so my step-Mom was the only Mom I ever knew. I liked her. She was great.
We were still three days from home when Dad and Mom had an ugly fight, and split up. After a lot of screaming and crying, they decided he'd fly and I'd ride home with Mom. We dropped Dad at an airport and Mom started driving. It was very quiet for a long time until Mom asked me if I wanted to play the alphabet game. Soon, we were having fun. Mom teased me when I missed an easy letter and praised me if I found a hard one.
We stopped at a motel with a pool and got a room with two gigantic beds. I carried our stuff in, and went swimming. We went out for dinner and then to a movie. When we got back, Mom watched TV while I got ready for bed. I was asleep in no time.
Sometime in the night, I heard Mom crying. She was moaning and sounded like she felt awful. I went over to her bed and put my arm around her and told her I loved her and asked her to stop crying. She'd been kind of rocking herself, but settled down as soon as I put my arm around her. I guess she was having a bad dream. I fell asleep again.
Later, I had a dream, myself. It was one of those dreams where you don't want to wake up. You feel so good, you want it to just go on and on. Then I woke up a little bit. Mom had one arm under me and was touching me with her other hand. It was the most wonderful feeling I'd ever had. It was just like the dream, but I was awake. She was touching me very gently, and rubbing me against her leg. I could feel her warm skin. All of a sudden I erupted, all over her leg I think. Mom didn't say anything, she just held me close and kissed my forehead and I fell asleep again.
When we were eating breakfast in the dining room, Mom asked how I had slept. I told her, 'Good.' Then, we talked about today's driving for a while. When it got quiet, Mom asked me if I enjoyed it. I didn't understand, so I asked her, 'What?' She said, 'Sleeping in my bed.' I said, 'Oh', then all of a sudden, I remembered what happened. I think I must have blushed. She just smiled, and asked again, 'Well, did you?' I was tongue-tied, but I managed to stutter, 'Yes'm, very much.'
